The Carabinieri of the Operational Nucleus of the Company of Rome Piazza Dante have proceeded to the arrest of an eighteen year old youth from the province of Napoli, seriously suspected of being involved in a case of extortion against a 95-year-old woman.
On the afternoon of January 8th, Carabinieri officers responded to a home on Via di Val Padana. The elderly woman had been contacted by a stranger who, posing as her son, had led her to believe that he needed to hand over a considerable sum of money, through a friend, to avoid serious criminal charges related to an alleged legal matter.
Concerned for her son's fate, the woman handed the suspect €1.500 in cash and several gold jewelry pieces. The Carabinieri stopped the suspect as he was leaving the building, noticing his suspicious behavior, including his hat and mask.
