"In the last few hours the sizing plan prepared by the Campania region.

Our organization's regional executive committee, which met yesterday, carefully examined the regional administration's decisions, highlighting significant concerns regarding certain choices that were deemed inadequate, if not downright detrimental to certain areas.

In some cases, we are faced with unexpected mergers that had never been discussed before, or communities disaggregated and recomposed in heterogeneous territories, leading to the loss of their identity. In order to favor some, it seems that the hardship of many others has not been taken into account." This is what Uil Scuola Campania said in a statement.

"Currently, the plan presented by the Campania Region does not convince our organization," the note continues. "We trust in a revision of the plan that takes into account the most disadvantaged communities, in order to protect students, families, and workers.

The most disadvantaged territories, or the internal and less populated ones, will be those to pay the highest price, even though they would have needed greater support due to their fragility.

We have long argued that a serious education policy should exploit the demographic decline to reinvest the freed-up resources, not only to maintain schools in peripheral areas but also to progressively reduce overcrowded classes and combat school dropouts.

"The word 'scaling down' is often synonymous with 'downsizing' at all levels, both national and regional. Uil Scuola Campania has repeatedly expressed its position on this issue.

Over the past few months, we've listened to entire school communities, trying to understand the least harmful solution, aware that downsizing, regardless of how it's presented, entails closing campuses, reducing service delivery points, cutting jobs, and creating disruption for students and their families.

"The issue of cuts is a consolidated practice involving governments of various political factions. All politicians during their election campaigns place education at the center of their platforms, arguing that it is fundamental to the country's growth and socioeconomic development.

However, once in government, they often make decisions that protect specific interests. The truth is that, in the end, it is always the school communities who pay the consequences," concludes Uil Scuola Campania.
