The past year has been a record-breaking one in the history of the Archaeological Park of Paestum and Velia, with 506.955 visitors taking the opportunity to discover the beauty of the two archaeological sites and the museum, marking an unprecedented milestone and a 30% increase compared to 2022.
The director of the Park, Tiziana D'Angelo, is enthusiastic and declares: "Crossing the half-million visitor mark is a significant milestone for us, marking an unprecedented level of public participation. In 2023, our visitors found a dynamic and renovated park in Paestum and Velia, with a renovated and redesigned museum, increasingly accessible archaeological areas, new visitor routes, a major archaeological and multimedia exhibition, important excavation sites, and a rich program of cultural events and educational workshops. For the new year, we are committed to consolidating this growth, further expanding and improving our cultural offerings and, above all, carefully listening to and addressing the needs of all our communities."
Scientific, enhancement, and promotional projects for the Park will continue in 2024. These include, in Paestum, ongoing excavations at the small archaic temple, an excavation, restoration, and enhancement project at the Forum baths, restoration and redevelopment of the Museum of the Sanctuary of Santa Venera and the former Cirio factory, and the completion of the renovation and redevelopment of the National Museum. In Velia, a stratigraphic excavation campaign on the acropolis, a redevelopment project on the XNUMXth-century railway tunnel, and the launch of a project to create the Elea-Velia Archaeological Museum are underway.
