Amadeus praised the strength of rapper Geolier and the new Neapolitan musical movement in a press conference in Sanremo.
“I know Geolier and his strength. There's a new Neapolitan movement that's very strong, made up of very talented rappers. It's no longer just a Neapolitan movement for Naples, but for the whole of Italy,” declared Amadeus.
The artistic director emphasized the popularity of these artists throughout Italy: "There isn't a single young person, from north to south, who doesn't know singers like Geolier and many others. And this, I must say, gives me great pleasure."
Amadeus then spoke about his relationship with the Neapolitan language: "Having a Neapolitan wife, I know and understand Neapolitan. For me, it's fundamental; it's beautiful to hear Neapolitan sung."
Fiorello added: "Yesterday I had the chance to meet Geolier, because he appeared on an episode of our Mare Fuori, where Mauro Casciari was there, giving him Neapolitan lessons. He played along and was really good-humored."
Amadeus: “I changed the rules to make Geolier sing in Neapolitan”
Amadeus finally clarified his decision to admit Geolier's song to the Festival, despite the rules prohibiting Neapolitan: "I wrote the rules and changed them, because as artistic director I decided that that song could participate."
At the press conference, he reiterated: no institutional presences or monologues from the co-hosts. "Last year we had the honor of the President of the Republic, this year there will be no institutional presence and the co-hosts will not give monologues, but rather personal stories."
Special Messages : "We'll have some personal messages, like Giovanni Allevi's, about his illness from which he's recovering, a reference to workplace deaths, and one about the musician Giorgiò Cutolo, killed in Naples. Mom will be coming."
Amadeus is preparing for his fifth hosting of the Sanremo Festival with an edition that promises to be full of music and emotions.
