After 12 days of relentless searches, the body of Antonella Di Massa, the 51 year old from Casamicciola disappeared from home on February 17, was found in an orange grove less than 300 meters from his car.

The macabre discovery was made by two journalists from the programme "Who has seen?", arrived on the island of Ischia for a report on the story.

The body was found on a plot of land adjacent to a busy country road, separated from the road by only a few metres and a low hedge.

The first investigative hypotheses suggest that the death occurred in the last 24 hours, thus excluding the hypothesis of a death in the days immediately following the disappearance.

The autopsy, ordered by the Public Prosecutor's Office, and the investigations by the SIS (Scientific Investigations Section) of the Carabinieri, will have to clarify the causes of death and whether it was a suicide, as hypothesized by the investigators, or of a murder.

The search for Antonella Di Massa had involved a massive deployment of forces, with dozens of men from the police force and volunteers, helicopters, sniffer dogs, drones with thermoscanners and patrol boats, but to no avail.

The woman had been filmed by a surveillance camera a short distance from the place where she was found, wearing heavy clothing, her hood pulled down over her face and carrying a plastic bag.

Many questions remain about the death of Antonella Di Massa

There are still many questions about what happened to Antonella Di Massa in the 12 days after her disappearance and the causes of her death. The Carabinieri investigations will continue to shed light on this dramatic story.

The place where the woman was found borders a country road that gives access to several homes and farmland. This area, although partly inaccessible, is not extensive.

In the days before the discovery, the sniffer dogs had searched the area several times without finding any traces, and the owners of the land inspected it the day after Antonella disappeared, but did not notice anything unusual.

Numerous house searches were also carried out

Search teams have been scouring the area daily, while law enforcement has been patrolling the entire area from Panza maximum Sant'Angelo. Several house searches were also conducted, following the hypothesis that Antonella could be hidden by someone who helped her stay away from home and family.

However, the mystery remains as to why she left and where she was during these days, and with whom. On the day of her disappearance, after having abandoned her phone and bag in the car, she was filmed by a surveillance camera not far from the place where she was found. She was wearing heavy clothing, with her hood pulled down over her face, and was carrying a plastic bag. This is the last image that portrays her.
