Bari-born neomelodic singer Tommy Parisi, son of mafia boss Savinuccio Parisi, was arrested during an anti-mafia raid by the State Police in Bari.
The operation, called “Internal Code”, led to the execution of 137 precautionary measures, including 110 imprisonments, against 130 suspects.
The charges contested under various titles are serious and range from mafia political electoral exchange to the disturbed freedom of auctions. But also mafia infiltration in business, particularly in the coffee sector, automotive and the city transport company AMTAB.
And then extortion, carrying and possession of weapons, drug trafficking and finally extortion in sports competitions. The crimes are aggravated by the mafia method.
The investigation by the Bari DDA has revealed a disturbing picture of collusion between the mafia, politics and business in the capital of Puglia.
Among those arrested is also the former regional councilor Giacomo Olivieri, accused of having contacted the Parisi-Palermiti, Strisciuglio and Montani clans to obtain the election of his wife Maria Carmen Lorusso to the Bari City Council in 2019.
The investigations also documented the infiltration of the mafia in the coffee, automotive and AMTAB sectors, with extortion, imposition of security guards and supplies of goods and services by "friendly" companies.
Assets with a total value of 20 million euros were seized.
