“A Municipality that has been in financial trouble for over a year and a half – explains Borreale – has the obligation to organize, structure, strengthen and improve what should be the nerve center of the local authority, the main source of tax revenue.

If the tax office worked, all the other offices would benefit and citizens would also have more adequate services because more money would be collected. In short, efficiency, effectiveness and administrative economy would be achieved. But unfortunately the performance of the office is truly disappointing. Who knows what judgment the evaluation body has expressed or will express.

“Apart from this aspect which is a priority, the office is not efficient, the unfinished practices are increasing more and more, the controls are carried out superficially and with errors, the databases are not updated, practices processed that no one wants to sign. This whole situation produces discontent among the citizens and protests against the Municipality.

Everyone must take on the responsibilities attributed to them, waiting and indifference causes further damage". The opposition councilor also takes a swipe at the poor fight against tax evasion.

“The issue of tax evasion and poor collection of local taxes is truly disappointing. No progress has been made after two years. The failure of the Aruta administration is clear for all to see. It is not understood what happened with the tender for the outsourcing of municipal taxes proposed by the Council and the powers that be. This is an issue that deserves further investigation, starting with the council commissions on taxes and transparency.

As evidence of how the mayor Cinzia Aruta and her majority (Five Star Movement, New Generations with coordinator Gennaro De Mare and PD), - Borreale points out - consider the tax office to be of little importance, so much so that they decided that the Municipality should have a Chief Accountant on an intermittent, part-time basis.

The further serious fact, however, is that in such an important period for the economic-financial planning of the new municipal budget it is not admissible not to have the appointed manager. The interim is a short temporary exception, an assignment of a provisional function, not the rule. ""Winning in order not to govern" does not serve the city".
