This is a vast area that for decades had been taken away from the community because it was devastated by wild illegal building and degradation and that now the municipal administration led by the young mayor Josi Gerardo Della Ragione has returned to the people of Bacole after the regional council of Governor Antonio Bassolino demolished a speculative building eyesore in 2004.
Here, where among other things an illegal maxi-lido reigned, from today onwards, in addition to being visible the Roman Villa discovered during the works and dating back to the times of the Military Port of Misenum and to the commander Pliny the Elder for whom a wreath of flowers was placed in the sea, children and families will be able to meet and play freely as the mayor of Bacoli enthusiastically explains to us, who also underlined the importance of the institutional protocol signed between the Municipality of Bacoli and that of Pompei.
“I express enormous satisfaction – declared Josi Della Ragione – for the inauguration of this public park made with the children and the Authorities. It is a dream come true. It is a public park in which, among other things, we have also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Municipality of Pompeii.
So Bacoli and Pompeii become even more national cultural attractions and we do it in a place where there was a massive building abuse. There is no longer the abuse, but there is a common good and a Roman Villa that belonged to Pliny the Elder. So we promote our city more and more with spaces for everyone through actions to restore legality”.
Among others, the Councilor for Tourism of the Campania Region, Felice Casucci, also spoke at the inauguration. “We – Casucci stated – are doing a lot thinking about this community. I believe that this is a moment of joy for us not only for the presence of the very young, but above all because it is a beautiful story of institutional synergy between the Municipality, the Region, the Superintendencies, the military Administrations.
But also a beautiful story in terms of recovery of a vital space for local populations”. The festive inauguration morning was opened at the nursery and elementary school “Plinio il Vecchio” with the students singing the national anthem.
