Esposito was killed on the evening of February 5, 2016 outside his home in Marigliano.

He asked me to hit someone who belonged to the clan operating in Marigliano, linked to Cristian Piezzo . He took me to his home, from whose bedroom I had a clear view of the building where Esposito lived."
For that murder, restrictive measures were notified in prison to the boss of the “44” of the Villa district, Ciro Rinaldi , 60 years old known as myway or in the Neapolitan way mauè ; Luigi Esposito , 'o sciamarro , 52 years old from Marigliano; Luisa De Stefano , 52 years old, mother-in-law of the sciamarro and mother of the repentant Tommaso Schisa , who is among the organizers of the murder and who was also reached by the order in his home as a collaborator; Vincenza Maione known as “Enza” , 47 years old, relative of De Stefano and finally the killer Michele Minichini , 33 years old.

Luigi Esposito learned of the ambush planned against him and decided to kill Francesco Esposito. Thanks to the intervention of Luisa De Stefano and Vincenza Maione, he made arrangements with the Rinaldis to plan the crime. Michele Minichini acted on the Rinaldis' behalf.
