The Florence prosecutor's office has opened an investigation into the collapse of a construction site on Via Mariti, with no suspects currently under investigation.
The construction site was placed under lockdown, and ASL technicians interviewed the personnel involved. Florence's chief prosecutor Filippo Spiezia visited the site along with emergency prosecutor Francesco Sottosanti. The leading hypothesis is that a beam or a pylon prong collapsed.
The chief prosecutor of Florence, the deputies Francesco Sottosanti and Alessandra Falcone, are listening to the works manager of one of the companies involved in the construction site of the Esselunga supermarket. In the collapse, three deaths, two missing and three injured have been confirmed, two of whom are in serious condition but not in danger of life.
The construction of the supermarket involves several subcontractors, with the company commissioning the work being based in Milan.

Numerous demonstrations scheduled in the Florentine area have been postponed and there were moments of tension during a union picket in front of the prefecture. According to the president of the Tuscany Region, hopes of finding the workers alive under the rubble are minimal.
The search continues unabated and there are fears that the death toll may worsen. One of the victims has been identified as Luigi Coclite, while the three injured are originally from Romania. The collapse occurred shortly before 9, involving eight workers and making the search operations very difficult.
