A wing of the condominium at Via Solimena 113, at Vomero, was evacuated this morning following reports of creaking and cracking in the walls of the apartments.
Firefighters, municipal police and technicians from ABC, the company that manages the water system, intervened on site to carry out technical checks on the structure of the building.
The residents, about 12 families, left their homes as a precaution. The waterworks technicians are trying to identify a possible underground leak in the pipes that could have caused the damage to the structure.
The evacuation is underway and residents are leaving the building with only a few bags in tow. It is not yet clear when they will be able to return to their homes.
A security problem
The Vomero episode highlights once again the need for urgent interventions to secure buildings, especially the oldest and most vulnerable ones. The lack of maintenance and the obsolescence of infrastructures represent a real risk to the safety of citizens.
