What is an actor? What is an actor for? Is it talent or a lie? An artist, a shaman, or simply an entertainer, a histrionics? Inspiration or transpiration? How does an actor get into character? But then do you really get in? And do you get out, sometimes? Is there a method, or is it a cheap trick?
Mamet stages a theatrical education that is not so far from the sentimental one. He compares two generations of actors, a young man at the beginning of a path, who knows if bright
or dark, and a mature actor, who for better or for worse has already done and given all he could. They find themselves alone, in the theater, in the evening, when that place created to welcome people becomes empty and silent... we spy on them during some rehearsals and readings, seeing them put to the test with their craft: they act out scenes from their repertoire, sometimes even embarrassing and unlikely.
But they, and this is an aspect that should not be underestimated, do not judge them, they do not treat them with condescension: on the contrary, they put all their humanity at the service of that repertoire.
They devote themselves to those fictions with all the truth they possess. Our two actors will spend time together, they will experience their relationship, their work, their trials, their life that flows mercilessly, they will enter and exit themselves, sometimes knowing more, sometimes not.
