An influencer priest from Verona, Don Ambrogio Mazzai, has sparked a controversy on TikTok after accusing Geolier of having bought votes for his non-Italian song at Sanremo.
In a video, Don Mazzai said he was surprised by the presence of a song not in Italian at the Italian Song Festival and claimed that it would have been favored by a “mafia” voting system.
His words sparked a reaction from fans of Geolier, who accused him of racism and classism.
Don Mazzai then posted a second video to clarify that he was not referring specifically to Geolier, but to the Festival's voting mechanism which, in his opinion, was "uneducational".
MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli called Don Mazzai's accusations "unworthy" and "defamatory", while requests for compensation are increasing from people who have been charged for televoting costs even after a long time.
The controversy sparked a debate on the Sanremo voting system and the management of the Festival.
