The show, freely adapted from “Tales from Shakespeare” (1807), tells the extraordinary transformation of the writings of the famous English playwright into twenty engaging stories for children, carried out by the two authors. Andrea Cioffi, responsible for the dramaturgy and direction, underlines that we are at the dawn of the nineteenth century, when a generation of artists decided to revolutionize the culture of their time, tired of a formal and dogmatic education. The peculiarity of the protagonists, however, lies in their unique temperament. The woman, brilliant, frank and lively, stood out in a world dominated by men.
The man, on the other hand, worked as an accountant at the East India Company, but was above all a poet, essayist and an ironic and “melancholic” bachelor. The subversive work, the result of the collaboration between the two, renewed tradition by betraying it with childish simplicity, arousing wide interest and making the public passionate about the social and artistic battles led by these two modern and fascinating characters.
"We are a company attentive to contemporary dramaturgy – the interpreters underline – and yet we decided to tell a story from the past, because it deals with tragedies that are still current: discrimination, love for charlatans, society's inability to empathize with young people. It should make you think that, in over two hundred years, things have changed very little".
