A happy ending story that almost seems miraculous: a woman from Albanella, in her 25th week of pregnancy, was seriously injured in a car accident, but her baby girl was born safe and sound.

The accident occurred in early December. The car in which the 46-year-old woman was traveling collided with a wild boar. The woman suffered severe trauma to the pelvis, a broken acetabulum, a dislocated hip, and a broken wrist.

The little girl, however, was miraculously unharmed. The woman was admitted to the Orthopedics and Traumatology Department of Ruggi Hospital in Salerno , directed by Dr. Mauro Nese.

After an initial unsuccessful attempt to stabilize her pelvis, she was transferred to the High-Risk Pregnancy Unit, directed by Dr. Mario Polichetti.

At the 32nd week, the woman complained of high fever and fetal distress. An emergency cesarean was performed. Desirée Maria, a baby girl weighing 1,800 kg, was born. The baby was entrusted to the care of the NICU, directed by Dr. Graziella Corbo.

The mother underwent surgery, performed by Dr. Nese, who reconstructed the completely shattered acetabular wall and inserted a latest-generation hip prosthesis.

Now, after a month, mother and daughter are finally together.

“It was not easy to find ourselves faced with such a complex case ,” declared the doctors involved.

“Teamwork, mutual support and the support of the Strategic Management were decisive in ensuring that little Desirée and her mother are finally together, united by the power of their love.”
