In Naples, the Piscinola-Scampia metro station pays homage to Geolier , runner-up at the Sanremo Music Festival, by playing his song “I p' me, tu p' te” on loop all day today through the permanent sound installation “From Caruso to 'A 67” by Désirée Klain, inaugurated in 2019.
This work is part of the project “Lo Scambiapassi-Artitutteinviaggio” conceived by the Plart Foundation as part of the urban redevelopment promoted by the Campania Region through Eav.
“Geolier was unknown to adults until ten days ago ,” declared Umberto De Gregorio, president of Eav, the Autonomous Body of Volturno, “and yet he has grown over the years as an extraordinary recording phenomenon, second only to Pausini in Italy (not in Campania) on Spotify.
Beyond tastes and free interpretations, one thing is clear: there are two worlds that do not communicate and do not understand each other, young people and adults. Today we celebrate him for having brought the narration of his neighborhood, with songs like P Secondigliano, beyond the boundaries of a neighborhood and making Naples talked about in the world”.
For Maria Pia Incutti, president of Plart, “Geolier is a son of this land, a megaphone of the love and difficulties of a neighborhood, but also of an entire city, of a country”.
"From the spaces to the subway," says Désirée Klain , "I thought it was meaningful to pay homage to him here, rather than with a thousand initiatives and proclamations. He made it possible to desegregate an area that had always been seen as marginal. His international success represents a redemption from a reality where people live in a total lack of meeting places, especially the denial of cinemas and theaters."
In the work “Song 'e mare” by Luciano Romano, which is part of the station's installations, fourteen black and white portraits of Neapolitan musicians and singers: Enrico Caruso, Pino Daniele (from behind), Lina Sastri, James Senese, Teresa De Sio, Enzo Avitabile, Eugenio Bennato, Lino Vairetti, Enzo Gragnaniello, Raiz, Meg, Francesco Di Bella, Daniele Sanzone ('A 67).
