The massacre that took place in Altavilla Milicia, in the province of Palermo, where Antonella Salamone and her sons Kevin and Emanuel were killed, has been linked to the theory of religious fanaticism and the exorcism rite to "drive the devil out" of the house.
However, there may be economic motives behind this massacre, according to local sources.
The couple involved in the massacre lived in precarious economic conditions, with the man receiving only a disability pension and his partner earning some money from the online sale of food products and natural cosmetics.
The citizen's income also helped them, but when it was suspended, the situation worsened further. This suggests that the two could have had some economic interest linked to the villa owned by Antonella Salamone's mother, and that they could try to push Barreca to leave the property.
A possible hypothesis is that Barreca's accomplices initially intended to manipulate him to obtain the villa and, upon discovering that Antonella Salamone's mother would not sell it, took "revenge" on her and her children.
Currently, neither Carandente nor Fina have responded to the preliminary investigations judge's questions. Both have a new defense attorney, Marco Rocca, from the Crotone court. Rocca said that the couple met in the villa because they knew each other, but they never spoke of exorcism. According to him, theirs was a friendship that perhaps arose from social media.
