The testimony of the boyfriend of the teenage victim of gang rape confirmed to investigators the horror the 13-year-old girl experienced.
The two minors have been identified and the horror seems to have no end. The thirteen-year-old was raped by a group of young Egyptians, three of whom were minors, in the bathrooms of the Villa Bellini power station in Catania last January 30, in front of her 17-year-old boyfriend.
She reconstructed those dramatic phases begging to be let go, but the young men continued to touch her. The young woman identified without hesitation one of the arrested as one of the two who raped her.
The suspect is a recent adult and his position will be handled by the District Attorney's Office, while for the minors there are two open files. The victim has identified three members of the gang in total: a minor and an adult who raped her and another Egyptian who held her down.
The seventh arrested person was subjected to biological sampling to compare his DNA with the blood, semen and saliva traces found in the young woman's underwear. The first tests confirmed that they belong to the victim and one of the arrested minors. The third DNA is still unknown and will be compared with that of the seventh arrested person.
There are two open investigations for aggravated gang rape: one by the District Attorney's Office and the other by the Juvenile Attorney's Office. The investigations are being conducted by the Carabinieri in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies. Two of the arrested are the material perpetrators of the rape, while the others were holding the boyfriend down.
The young woman recognized the two minors in a confrontation through a darkened window, while she was not sure about the other five because she did not see their faces. It was her boyfriend who gave the information along with one of the arrested who collaborated and is the only one under house arrest.
DNA analysis on biological traces has provided the first results on one of the detainees and the results on the others and the results from the cell phones are awaited. The hearing before the judge for the validation of the arrests is scheduled for Tuesday. The metropolitan bishop of Catania, Luigi Renna, expressed his closeness to the young victim of violence and invited young Egyptians to respect and love women instead of treating them like objects.
He also stressed that the crime committed by these young immigrants should not lead to generalizations, as not all immigrants are violent, just as not all young Italians are. Violence must always be condemned and the person who committed the mistake must be put in a position to not commit it again.
