The Prefecture of Napoli has called a coordination and support meeting chaired by the prefect Michele Di Bari to evaluate the interventions already carried out, in progress or to be planned in relation to the sinkhole that opened up in via Morghen.

The event caused a significant water leak from the underlying pipeline and swallowed two vehicles, but fortunately two people were saved without suffering injuries thanks to the immediate intervention of the army soldiers of the Strade Sicure contingent in the area.

Two buildings were evacuated: the one in via Morghen at number 63, inhabited by around 60 people, and the one in via Solimena at number 9, where 10 people lived, including two young people who were slightly injured.

The affected roads and those adjacent to the sinkhole have been closed to traffic and a plan is being implemented to create alternative routes, subject to municipal ordinance.

At the moment, a tree that fell during the event is being removed, the two cars that fell into the sinkhole will be recovered and the water and sewer pipes underneath will be repaired, with the consequent restoration of the water service and the roadway.

The City of will assess the assistance needs of the evacuated people and will conduct safety checks on the buildings involved with the support of the regional civil protection and the Italian Red Cross, if necessary.
