Still tension at the juvenile penal institute in Airola, in the province of Benevento. A Tunisian minor prisoner attempted suicide during the night, but was saved by the timely intervention of the Penitentiary Police.
Sabatino De Rosa, deputy regional coordinator for the Campania region of the juvenile sector of the Independent Penitentiary Police Union, recounts what happened: The minor was transported to the San Pio Hospital in Benevento, but the Penitentiary Police escort had to wait approximately 15 hours for the arrival of the child neuropsychiatrist from Foggia, because the hospital did not have a specialist available on site.
De Rosa denounces the critical situation at the Airola prison: "The management of foreign inmates is out of control. A few weeks ago, an Egyptian minor inmate attacked two prison officers and was not transferred elsewhere.
Furthermore, we ask that all foreigners have their bone age measured, because in the past there have been cases of people over twenty-five pretending to be minors."
