Arzano – Thefts in the city: “We are afraid. Where has the video surveillance gone in the city?”. After the attack on Rinauto (pictured), the shopkeepers are once again turning to Prefect Michele Di Bari.
Many residents now resigned to thieves write on the Facebook wall complaining about an endless escalation of thefts. Last weekend, the attempted night robbery against the “Rinauto Motori” dealership in via Leon Battista Alberti, on the provincial Arzano-Casandrino, caused a stir, while a few days earlier the pizzeria la Cantina di Carmine in via Melito was attacked after two pharmacies were targeted.
The attempted theft of Rinauto occurred during the night between Saturday and Sunday. The owner of the dealership, who lives on the premises, alerted by the noise of a break-in, immediately intervened, shouting and cursing at the thieves, who, having been discovered, immediately fled.
Luckily they didn't take anything away. The only damage suffered was that resulting from the breaking of the entrance doors. Exasperated, some citizens would also like to organize night patrols.
However, on social media, frightened residents are asking for more security, speaking of a “problem that has become unmanageable.” Meanwhile, thieves are stopping at nothing, even stealing electric scooters and stealing cars at all hours of the day.
In short, the security situation in Arzano continues to be extremely critical and shows no signs of improving even after the Round Table on Public Order and Security on 18 January and the reassurances of the Prefecture and law enforcement.
In fact, the escalation of attacks on businesses, homes and car thefts has even worsened.
Doubts and veiled controversy have been raised by citizens of the three municipalities (Frattamaggiore and Casoria, which have also ended up in the sights of criminals with a series of thefts) following the meeting held on February 29th, at the Government Palace, chaired by the Prefect, for the definition of a memorandum of understanding regarding interventions relating to urban security and the economic development of the area that includes the municipalities of Arzano, Casoria and Frattamaggiore.
The meeting - as emerges from the press release - was attended by the Mayors of the three municipalities of the province, of all the municipalities affected by the industrial area of the ASI Consortium, the Extraordinary Government Commissioner for the ZES Campania, the representatives of the Foundation for the South, of the Industrial Union, of the ASI of Naples and the representatives of Seda Group SpA, of Kiton, and of STMicroElectronics.
Among these, the rationalization of existing video surveillance systems, so as to make them all connected to the operations rooms of the police forces, a training offer tailored to work needs, the establishment of a regional training center, the improvement of traffic in the territory with the creation of a control room.
In short, while the city of Arzano lives in a state of abandonment, the Asi in recent months has provided for the installation of a hundred cameras that have not yet been reported by any signage as required by the Privacy Guarantor. In the meantime, protests are growing on the web for the lack of video surveillance in a city with a high crime rate.
