The proposal of Enrico Indelli, President of the Board of Directors of the Salerno Medical School Foundation, to the mayor of Salerno:

“Having heard the family, his son Jacopo and his wife Mara, I intend with this letter of mine to make public the “PROPOSAL to DEDICATE and NAMED THE AUDITORIUM”, in via De Renzi, to which so much was devoted, with all his energy and convictions, to the director FULVIO MAFFIA. It would be wonderful if all this could be realized with a ceremony to be held on June 21, when the Summer Solstice falls, the day of the Music Festival, to which he was so symbolically linked”.

Speaking is Dr. Enrico Indelli, President of the Board of Directors of the Fondazione Scuola Medica Salernitana, linked by a deep friendship to the late director of the Martucci Conservatory of Salerno and who launches a proposal to the mayor Vincenzo Napoli and to the entire municipal administration of Salerno, knowing that many have loved and love Fulvio Maffia and who do not want his figure and the work done in all these years to be forgotten.

“The World of Culture and the Institutions, beyond the mourning, must honor the memory of Maestro Fulvio Maffia, the Director of the turning point and the rebirth of the “G. Martucci” Conservatory.

"I read with pleasure and great satisfaction that the Auditorium will be entrusted to the management of the Conservatory of Salerno. The competent and pragmatic proposal of the President, Attorney Luciano Provenza, of a direct concession, for free use to Martucci, has traced the feasible, necessary and most appropriate path to grant its availability. I applaud the path that, defined by the political representation, starting from the motion of council initiative, has started the assignment process, through the institutional steps: from the Transparency Commission, to the competent Municipal Offices, to the City Council, where it was approved unanimously, last autumn. The city of Salerno has experienced a convinced and enlightening comparison, of democratic participation of the entire City Council that will be the text, in the Administrative Regulations in force, also in light of the jurisprudential sources of the Court of Auditors.

This gesture of shared civic and political responsibility between the majority and the opposition, as authoritatively highlighted by Mayor Arch. Enzo Napoli, has given the opportunity to identify the most appropriate methods, to find the technical-legal solutions, to entrust the Auditorium to Martucci. An innovative work, equipped with the most modern, original, sophisticated and inclusive techniques of communication for the public. The seats are elegant. Modern yes, but with a strong artistic and architectural appeal of conservative restoration, thanks to the expertise of the Municipal Technical Offices.

Recovery enhanced by the Work of Art, polychromatic and Mediterranean, created by the ceramic artist Paolo Santoro, on the splendid Panoramic Terrace of the former Serraglio Orphanage now Auditorium, with a breathtaking view of the Gulf of Salerno and our entire City. Homage and honor to the figure of Trotula, of the Mulieres Salernitanae and of the thousand-year-old Schola Salerni. Of innate musical talent, he studied at the Music Conservatory of Naples, founded in 1808, located in the Historic Center of the Parthenopean City, in the former Convent of the Celestine annexed to the Church of San Pietro a Majella.

In front of the Historic Old University Hospital of Medicine and Surgery. So as a student I met Fulvio, a young and brilliant pianist. I followed him to concerts in the splendid Villa Pignatelli, in Riviera di Chiaia. He grew visibly, under the loving and prestigious guidance of Maestro Vito Russo di Torregrossa, a cultured man with prestigious friends: the pianist Wilhem Kempff, the golden flute Severino Gazelloni, the immense Luciano Pavarotti.
Fulvio grew rapidly and progressively refined his piano art. He was ready for Life. I remember him very emotional, at his wedding, in the splendid church of Gesu' Nuovo.

Over time he became the Maestro and the Director that we Salernitans have learned to know, discover, appreciate, esteem and admire.
The entire city of Salerno appreciated the didactic, educational and formative turning point of our Conservatory, which had finally opened up to the territory.

Last September 11th Salerno cried with emotion at Fulvio Maffia's funeral celebrated in the Cathedral. The people of Salerno said goodbye to an artist and life teacher, who had spent his entire and young life, serving young students, educational education and Martucci. I believe that dedicating the Auditorium to him could be the only true and dutiful homage that this city can give him, thus ensuring that he is remembered in everlasting memory for posterity, he who of his life's commitment to our city, lived it as the Capital of a dream".
