A Maremma Sheepdog was saved by the Carabinieri in Avella, in the province of Avellino, after a citizen's report. The dog, in a serious state of malnutrition, had been abandoned along the State Road 7 bis and tied with a chain inside a rainwater drainage channel.
A patrol of the Radiomobile Unit of the Baiano Carabinieri Company intervened on site after a citizen's report.
The military found the dog, an adult Maremma Sheepdog, tied with a chain inside the canal.
The dog was in a serious state of malnutrition and showed obvious signs of suffering.
The rescue:
The Carabinieri recovered the dog and transported him by ambulance to a veterinary clinic.
The dog was given appropriate treatment and is now slowly recovering.
The Carabinieri have started an investigation to find the perpetrator of the abandonment and mistreatment of the dog.
This is a voluntary and cruel act that put the animal's life at risk.
The military is examining the images from the surveillance cameras in the area to try to identify the person responsible.
