Avellino is also taking center stage in the national photographic census project called "Objective Italy," an initiative born from a memorandum of understanding between the Italian Federation of Photographic Associations (FIAF) and ISTAT (the Italian National Institute of Statistics). From March 9 to 14, at the Circolo della Stampa on Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, 6 – Avellino, over 160 images taken in the city will be on display to celebrate the 75th anniversary of FIAF's history as part of the "Objective Italy" project, in which the AvelliPHOTO photography club actively participated.

The exhibition will open with a press conference on March 9, 2024 at 17:00 p.m. at the Circolo della Stampa in Avellino. The 163 photos, taken in Avellino by the amateur photographers of AvellinoPHOTO, portray subjects randomly selected among passers-by in specific places during the spring days of May 6 and 7 of the previous year. The photographs were taken in a special set set up at the Circolo della Stampa on Corso di Avellino, following the example of about one hundred and fifty sets set up throughout Italy by the participating FIAF photography clubs.

Thanks to the collaboration between FIAF and Istat, it was possible to create a census through images with the aim of “giving back to the community a photographic mosaic of Italians today”. The “Obiettivo Italia” project is inspired by the idea of August Sander, the famous German photographer of the 20s who designed a “catalogue of contemporary society”. Through portraits of German men and women, Sander created a sort of encyclopedia through images of men of the XNUMXth century.

On the occasion of its 75th anniversary, FIAF has significantly contributed to the history of Italian amateur photography, interpreting the cultural processes of the different historical phases, as explained by President Roberto Rossi. The Federation's approach considers photography primarily as a social phenomenon, an excellent tool for narrating contemporaneity, where everyone is a protagonist, both as a user and as an integral part of the representation. The people who participated as protagonists in "Obiettivo Italia" will be honored with a commemorative photo of this historic event in Italian photography.
