The NAS Carabinieri, with the collaboration of the ASL of Avellino and the Consortium of Social Services of Atripalda, have executed a preventive seizure order on a social-welfare facility in the municipality of San Michele di Serino, in the province of Avellino.
The facility, which did not have a permit to operate, was closed following an order issued by the mayor and subsequent investigations by the Carabinieri del NAS.
Serious health and hygiene irregularities and a lack of appropriate authorizations were found within the facility.
The NAS military found non-self-sufficient guests, expired drugs, surgical supplies and medical devices stored in an improper manner.
The facility, despite the closure order, was found to be still functioning during subsequent checks. To prevent further violations, the facility was seized and the guests were transferred to other authorized facilities or returned to their families.
