A Benevento man, the former director of a nursing home, is at the center of an investigation into the crime of defrauding an incompetent person, accused of defrauding an elderly resident at the facility. The investigation, conducted by officers from the Carabinieri Judicial Police Section and the Benevento Provincial Headquarters of the Guardia di Finanza, has led to the precautionary seizure of assets worth over €2 million, by order of the preliminary investigations judge of the Sannio court.

Authorities launched the investigation following a complaint filed by the family of the elderly man, who died shortly after being admitted to a nursing home in Apice. According to the complaint, the handwritten will in which the elderly man had allegedly named the facility's director as his sole heir had been drawn up the day before he entered the home, and during meetings with his family, the man appeared confused and unable to express himself clearly.

Further elements emerging from the investigation include the director's constant presence behind the elderly man's back during meetings, as well as his alleged influence in the drafting of the will. Furthermore, the will itself was subjected to a handwriting analysis, which revealed it was written from dictation, suggesting that the testamentary provisions may not reflect the elderly man's authentic wishes. The investigation is ongoing, and the suspected former director of the nursing home will face charges.
