The Phlegraean Fields are being carefully monitored and there is constant dialogue with the scientific community, including discussions with the major risks commission of the national civil protection department. Any signs of concern for a possible increase in the alert level come from the scientific community, but at the moment there are no signals that suggest such an evolution. This is what Italo Giulivo, director of the Civil Protection of the Campania Region, stated during a statement to journalists during the debate on “Campi Flegrei, ethics of risk communication”.
Giulivo stressed that this is a normal evolution of an uplifting area, with effects that also include tremors. He also highlighted the need to disseminate correct information on how to manage volcanic risk, promoting uniform language and basing information on validated knowledge.
Titti Postiglione, deputy head of the Department of Civil Protection, reiterated the importance of information as the main tool against anxiety generated by events. The mayor of Pozzuoli, Luigi Manzoni, stressed the importance of relying only on official sources, highlighting the challenge of managing anxiety fueled by misinformation that the Municipality regularly faces.
