The zoological guards of the International Organization for Animal Protection (OIPA) have seized a twelve-year-old dog in Casoria, in the province of Napoli, and the person responsible was reported for mistreatment (article 544 ter of the Penal Code). The dog, a Maremma breed, was held prisoner in a room inside an abandoned shed, tied to a chain fixed to the wall, in an environment characterized by serious conditions of hygienic-sanitary degradation.
At the time of the seizure, the dog had neither water nor food available. The coordinator of the zoophilic guards of Naples and the province, Fernando Cirella, declared that the health conditions of Thor, as the dog was called, were serious from the very beginning. The dog was extremely thin, needed urgent medical care and had not had access to food or water for days. Doctors found an alarming clinical picture, including thinness and loss of hair, mycosis in the eyes, arthritis and dehydration.
Thor is now hosted in a facility where he is receiving the necessary care and OIPA guards are monitoring his progress. After the completion of the legal process, he can be entrusted to someone who can provide him with love, adequate care and a welcoming home for the last years of his life. OIPA underlines the importance of not ignoring situations of degradation and mistreatment of animals and invites you to report such cases to its zoophilic guards for prompt intervention to protect the animals, in full respect of privacy.
