This morning’s events in the center of Campania’s main city, Naples, have caused quite a bit of panic. In the city’s popular shopping center – Via Toledo – a dog, presumably in the care of a homeless person, unexpectedly attacked another smaller dog who was simply walking with his owner.
According to the testimonies of passers-by and those present collected by 'l'Unità', it seems that the larger dog suddenly attacked for no apparent reason, almost tearing off the ear of the other puppy. The owner of the attacked dog immediately started screaming, scared.
There was a real risk that the other dog would attack her. It is believed that the homeless man later intervened to regain control of his dog, succeeding only after injuring his hand on the window of a nearby shop. Both the man's and the dog's blood left traces on the street and on the shop window. All this happened near the Galleria Umberto I.
Panic immediately took over among the people who witnessed the scene. A situation that got out of hand and could have caused even more damage. Naples has several unresolved issues, one of which is the presence of many homeless people who live on the streets, many of whom own large dogs that are not always kept on a leash or with a muzzle. This problem of public order and decorum should be addressed and resolved as soon as possible.
