Thirtieth anniversary of the killing of Don Diana: a crowd at Casal di Principe to ask for his beatification.
Thirty years after his assassination by the Camorra, Don Giuseppe Diana continues to live in the memory and hearts of thousands of people. On the occasion of the sad anniversary, a crowd of nine thousand people, including many students, participated in the procession in Casal di Principe to commemorate the priest and ask for his beatification.
The President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella defined Don Diana as “a witness of hope, an educator of freedom, a point of reference for the young people and honest people of Casal di Principe”. A message of hope and commitment that was echoed by all those who spoke, including the bishop of Aversa Angelo Spinillo, the president of Libera Don Luigi Ciotti and the president of the Anti-Mafia Commission Chiara Colosimo.
Don Luigi Ciotti expressed his hope that Don Diana will soon be beatified, stating that “his martyrdom is before everyone’s eyes” and that “in our minds and hearts, Don Peppino is already a saint”. Ciotti also emphasized that, despite the progress made over the years, the fight against the mafia is still an important challenge for our country.
The procession ended in the square in front of the cemetery, where Don Diana is buried. The student Martina, on behalf of all the kids present, declared: “Don Peppino lives with us, he is always the one who shows us the path to follow, made of justice and legality”.
The participation of so many people in the Casal di Principe procession is a tangible sign of how Don Diana's message is still relevant and how his figure continues to inspire the fight against the Camorra and for the construction of a more just society.
