The Municipality of Castellabate has approved Council Resolution No. 25/2024 to combat coastal erosion along its shoreline, which is currently undergoing work.
Following damage caused to the breakwaters during violent storm surges, the Municipal Administration has requested resources to restore and complete the existing breakwaters, in order to reduce the risk of erosion and protect public and private safety.
The project, with a cost of 4.350.000,00 euros, includes urgent interventions to close a submerged gap in front of the beach of “Marina Piccola” in the hamlet of Santa Maria, with the aim of completing the defense system against the waves and protecting one of the most famous beaches in the area.
The Mayor of Castellabate, Marco Rizzo, stated: “The protection of the coast, the golden sands and the sea is fundamental for Castellabate, both from an environmental and tourist point of view. Coastal erosion has compromised the state of the protective cliffs, therefore it is necessary to intervene immediately to defend the beauty of the coast”.
Councilor Nicoletta Guariglia emphasized: "The beach of Marina Piccola represents a source of pride for our country. Coastal erosion has reduced the beach, but with this intervention we aim to preserve the natural beauty of Castellabate and strengthen its tourist attractiveness."
