Il Celta Vigo has made official the dismissal of Rafael Benitez due to the disappointing performances of the Galician team, currently engaged in the fight to avoid relegation to the second division. In a statement, Celta said: “Rafa Benitez and his coaching staff are leaving RC Celta after eight months of absolute dedication and total commitment, during which the team failed to achieve the objectives set by the club.”
Rafael Benítez, 63, began his adventure at the helm of Celta last June, signing a contract initially scheduled to last until 2026. Despite having expressed his commitment to a three-year project, disappointing results led to his dismissal. The former Liverpool manager had tried to convey confidence in recent weeks, but the lack of success has led to the end of his mandate.
Celta Vigo have not yet officially announced who will replace Benítez, but according to Spanish sources, reserve team coach Claudio Giraldez could be called upon to lead the first team. The focus now turns to finding a new coach who can lead the team to more positive results and ensure a solid stay in the top flight of Spanish football.
