The mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, attended the start of security checks in the lively Piazza Garibaldi, flanked by the prefect Michele di Bari and representatives of the police force. The initiative is part of a broader context, with the deployment of 122 new soldiers of the operation Safe Roads, a topic that dominated discussions at the recent Provincial Committee for Public Order and Security, chaired by the prefect.
The arrival of the 122 soldiers, recently assigned by the Ministry of the Interior in collaboration with the Ministry of Defense, is a targeted response to strengthen security in Naples. They will be added to the contingent already active in the context of the “Safe Streets” operation in the metropolitan area of Naples. The total number of men and women of the Italian Army available to the prefecture will thus reach 620 units. These soldiers will be employed for surveillance services at sensitive sites and objectives, in addition to reconnaissance and patrolling tasks, in collaboration with the police forces.
Not only that, another 100 soldiers will be dedicated to the specific needs of the Land of Fires, underlining the authorities' commitment to addressing crucial issues related to environmental and social security. Mayor Manfredi highlighted the importance of these collaborative initiatives between local administration and law enforcement to ensure the safety of the city and its sensitive areas.
