In addition to celebrating the music of that memorable New York evening, the film recounts the origins of one of Lucio Dalla’s most famous songs, “Caruso,” and its importance in the history of Italian music. The documentary intertwines Caruso’s Neapolitan roots with Dalla’s connection to Naples and Sorrento, as well as his affinity with America and jazz, considering his origins in a family linked to the jazz tradition and his performances at the Village Gate.
“DallAmeriCaruso – Il concerto perduto” includes testimonies from personalities close to Lucio Dalla during those crucial days, offering an in-depth look at the artist and the context of that moment. Participants in the documentary include rock singer-songwriter and actress Angela Baraldi, musicians Gaetano Curreri and Ricky Portera of Stadio, along with other significant figures who enriched Dalla’s life. Unpublished and private images of Lucio Dalla and a moving performance by pianist Danilo Rea round out this compelling story of one of the most iconic artists in Italian music.
