There is a Déjà Vu atmosphere around Juve Stabia. Everything already seen exactly 30 years ago.
For the less young supporters of the Wasps, it is worth remembering what happened in the 1993-1994 football season: the year of the famous play-off for Serie B lost by Juve Stabia at the then Stadio San Paolo in Naples against Salernitana and which led to the breaking of the twinning between the Granata fans and those of the Azzurri.
Before that play-off, Juve Stabia (who finished fifth in Group C of Serie C) had faced the battleship Reggina in the semi-final. The first leg at the Menti was won by Juve Stabia of the president Roberto Fiore for 2-0 with goals from Talevi and Lunerti.
The return match at the Granillo was a real manhunt from a competitive point of view with the home team finishing regulation time with a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Cevoli and Mariotto. In extra time Juve Stabia closed the gap with Righi, then the Calabrians scored the 3-1 again with Cevoli but then De Simone scored the 3-2 goal on the counterattack that launched the Wasps towards the final.
But, there is a but: because the match director had surgically warned the three Juve Stabia players who were at risk of suspension: Colavitto, Amodio and De Simone who will miss the final.
But it's not over because in the play-off at the San Paolo, the referee Mr. Gronda from Genoa sends off the Juve Stabia player Incarbona at 28'. But despite being numerically inferior, Mr. Roberto Chiancone's Wasps hold on 0-0 for the entire first half.
At the beginning of the second half, something happens that should never be seen on football fields: in the 50th minute Tudisco scores for Salernitana and within 4 minutes Onorato and Italia are sent off in quick succession. With Juve Stabia down to 8 men, the Granata immediately score the 2-0 again with Tudisco and then the 3-0 with Breda.
For the record, with the score at 0-0 and the match being 11 against 11, a penalty was not awarded to Juve Stabia for a foul on Celestini.
Why tell these things 30 years later? Simple, because as said at the beginning the climate seems the same. The disqualification of the Menti stadium in the delicate match on Monday night against Taranto is the first sign that "up there" someone does not love this Juve Stabia as they did not love Fiore's.
It is true that the situations are different but in Benevento they are expecting a defeat for Juve Stabia, or even something more and they are waiting to get to the big match on April 8th at the Vigorito stadium with the possibility of overtaking the Wasps in the standings (today ahead by 7 points) in the event of a victory.
Meanwhile, it is worth mentioning the scientific expulsions of Juve Stabia coach Guido Pagliuca, it also happened on Thursday in Latina and he received a two-match suspension this time. But be careful what happens between now and April 8th regarding any warnings and expulsions at home in Stabia.
In Castellammare more than one ill-thinking fan is pointing out that the referee designator for Lega Pro is Mr. Maurizio Ciampi, 52 years old from Benevento, with a modest past as a referee in Serie A involved in the first calciopoli scandal of 2006.
After an initial two-month suspension imposed by the Disciplinary Commission of the AIA, he was subsequently acquitted after the FIGC Federal Court found a lack of jurisdiction in that provision.
