In the prison of Salerno, the Penitentiary Police discovered and confiscated a significant quantity of drugs, as well as 6 cell phones hidden under the bottom of a tile. The news was reported by the regional secretary of OSAPP, Vincenzo Palmieri. The discovery occurred following a drone flyover over the prison walls, which occurred the previous evening.
Following this situation, targeted checks were intensified this morning, focusing on the search for cell phones and narcotics inside the Institute and in the surrounding areas, as explained by Palmieri. “This morning, a careful control operation gave positive results in the First Section.”
“A food container containing 5 blocks of hashish, weighing approximately 500 grams, hidden in a bag among the rubbish, was discovered in rooms used for common use by inmates, in the gym. Everything suggests that the drugs were packaged for a possible launch from a drone above the prison”, he added.
The OSAPP secretary reiterated the need, already expressed in the past also by the OSAPP national councilor Emilio Fattorello, to install as soon as possible jammers capable of inhibiting the functioning of similar drones, as already successfully achieved in other national penitentiaries, including those of the Campania District. Palmieri also underlined the importance of strengthening the Penitentiary Police dog service to improve security in the prison.
