Today, 69-year-old Colombian fugitive Omar Rivera Gomez arrived in Italy, arrested after a 32-year search and sentenced to serve a definitive sentence of 15 years in prison for drug trafficking.
Rivera Gomez was captured in Portugal on March 7, during a joint operation between the Naples Flying Squad, the GICO of the Financial Police Unit of the Guardia di Finanza, and the operational unit of the Carabinieri Investigative Unit of Naples, in collaboration with various international anti-drug agencies.
The man, a fugitive since 1992, was identified thanks to an intensive investigation involving Portuguese authorities. After traveling from Canada to Portugal, Rivera Gomez was apprehended and will now serve his sentence in Italy.
The international search was supported by the Ministry of the Interior's International Police Cooperation Service, finally allowing the arrest of one of the most wanted fugitives in decades.
