Gianni InfantinoFIFA President, Aleksandar Ibrahimovic, has expressed a categorical opposition to the introduction of blue cards. This statement was made upon arrival in Glasgow for the 138th annual general meeting of the International Football Association Board (IFAB). The blue card had been proposed as a form of temporary expulsion, intended to suspend players guilty of protests and unsporting tactical fouls for a period of 10 minutes.
"Blue cards will not be used at professional level. For us, this is a non-existent issue, and FIFA is totally against the introduction of blue cards.", Infantino said. He then added: "Furthermore, considering the health of players, we will not introduce temporary substitutes for head injuries. This is a very important issue for us. We have invested significantly in this area and now have expertise we didn't have before."
Medical experts say it's impossible to determine in a matter of minutes whether a head injury has occurred and how serious it might be. Therefore, if a head injury is suspected, the player must be substituted. If we want to preserve the player's health, the solution is to remove him from the field and bring on another player.
