From 17 to 19 March 2024, on the occasion of the eightieth anniversary of the last eruption of the VesuvioThree days of guided tours will take place at the Vesuvius Observatory and in the surrounding area of the volcano. The event is open to families and students from schools in the "red zone" identified by the National Civil Protection Plan.
The program, titled "Knowing and Experiencing Vesuvius, 80 Years After the Last Eruption," was organized in collaboration with the Vesuvius Observatory of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV-OV), the Department of Civil Protection (DPC), the Civil Protection Office of the Campania Region, and the Vesuvius National Park Authority. It was developed in collaboration with the Regional School Office for Campania and the Municipality of Ercolano.
The main goal is to offer the opportunity to explore the volcano, understand its associated phenomena, and rediscover the historical memory of the places.

March 17th is open to all, with departures every hour from 9:00 am to 15:00 pm. Reservations are required through the Vesuvius Observatory website www.ov.ingv.it, subject to availability. March 18th and 19th are reserved for participating schools through the Regional School Office.
The program includes, for each day, a first part with a visit to the historic Vesuvius Observatory and the screening of an exclusive film on the 1944 eruption. The second part consists of a walk along trail no. 9 of the Vesuvius National Park, focusing on the volcano's natural features, its risk characteristics, and the activities of the civil defense system. The entire tour lasts approximately two hours and is organized for groups of 50 people.
Vesuvius, protagonist of a significant episode during the Second World War, will be at the center of the reflections, offering a precious opportunity to the local community and schools to deepen their knowledge of the volcano, understand the phenomena associated with it and learn the civil protection measures necessary to face any risks.
