A Giugliano In Campania, reports to the company's operations center alerted the Carabinieri to the presence of a disoriented elderly man wandering along the Asse Mediano. "A person is walking along the Asse Mediano, he's disoriented," was the message received by phone.
Units from the mobile radio unit were quickly deployed to intervene. The officers quickly reached the Asse Mediano, a road known for its high speeds, where they spotted the man dangerously in the middle of the road.
With their flashing lights on and taking the necessary precautions, the Carabinieri managed to stop traffic and assist the visibly confused 80-year-old. The man was promptly rescued and taken to the emergency medical services, fortunately without suffering serious injuries.
It later emerged that the elderly man had fled from a nearby nursing home. The Carabinieri's swift and effective intervention prevented potential danger to the elderly man and to motorists traveling along the road.
A story with a happy ending thanks to the promptness and professionalism of the police. The Carabinieri later determined that the elderly man had shortly before left a nursing home.
