A 27-year-old woman was saved from a stroke while in her twelfth week of pregnancy. The woman arrived at the emergency room of the Ospedale del Mare in Napoli with worrying symptoms: a slight paralysis of the left side and difficulty moving the limbs.
She was diagnosed with ongoing ischemia, caused by complete occlusion of the right middle cerebral artery.
She underwent an urgent mechanical thromboectomy, successfully performed by neuroradiologists Valeria Piscitelli and Fabrizio Fasano.
The operation was successful: both mother and baby were saved.
The woman has had an almost complete recovery from the neurological deficit and the pregnancy is proceeding regularly.
