A viral video on TikTok features a long list of stereotypes about Naples and Neapolitans. The video was made by a young Milanese mother who shocked everyone with her message at the end: “Don't go there, I'll go”. The protagonist of the recording is in fact in love with the Neapolitan capital and wanted to challenge and mock a series of negative stereotypes often spread online.
The woman put herself on the line, repeating phrases like “I’m not going to Naples, the Neapolitans get on my nerves” or “I’m not going to Naples, it’s too dirty and it stinks”. But at the end of the series of provocations, the Milanese woman changes her tone: “Don’t go. I’m going, I love it to death”. She then outlines a series of reasons to love Naples: “It’s full of art, things to see and things to eat”.
She says she has traveled all over Italy, but the hospitality and kindness of Neapolitans is unlike anything she has seen anywhere else. “Their energy and the artistic heritage of the city are unique. And the food? Unmatched,” she continues.
The video - as reported by Fanpage - ends with a sharp message: "Don't go to Naples, the Neapolitans, people like you, don't want it".
This clear position has received numerous approvals in the comments, not only from Neapolitans, who could be considered biased, but also from Italians from other regions, including Venetians, Emilians, Tuscans and other Lombards.
There were, however, those who wanted to reiterate their aversion to the Neapolitan city, a thought that was however isolated among the many expressions of appreciation towards Naples and its inhabitants.
