The Pavia Prosecutor's Office has opened a manslaughter investigation into the death of Jordan Jeffrey Baby, also known as Jordan Tinti. The young man, who had previously attempted suicide and had several legal problems, was found hanged in his cell on March 12. In the Pavia prison, Baby was known to have reported being abused and assaulted by other inmates.
The investigation is being led by Prosecutor Alberto Palermo and several people have been heard as witnesses, including other inmates. The autopsy is expected to be conducted between Tuesday and Wednesday. Federico Edoardo Pisani, Baby's lawyer, and his father are calling for justice and want the truth about the boy's death. According to Pisani, it is unlikely that the suicide was a voluntary act by the boy and suggests the possibility of incitement to suicide or manslaughter. It is hoped that the autopsy will shed light on the cause of death.
Another question raised by the lawyer was why Baby was still being held in Pavia, despite having returned to prison on March 2 after being temporarily suspended from his therapeutic placement in a community. Gianmarco Fagà, a famous trapper known as Traffik, is accused of mistreating Baby. Fagà had previously been convicted of robbery aggravated by racial hatred. The trial against him was supposed to begin on Friday, but was postponed to April 12 due to the impediment of one of the lawyers. During the next hearing, Baby's father will replace his son as a civil party.
