CDisputes at the “Arcoleo” stadium in Acerra (Naples) during the Eccellenza Campania match between Acerrana and Quarto Afrograd on March 3, sparked a lively controversy between local supporters and Europa Verde MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli. The player of Cape Verdean origins, Aldair Soares, was the target of insults from the opposing stands, arousing the indignation of Borrelli, who denounced the presence of “racist insults” against the footballer.
The situation came to light thanks to a video published by the deputy himself, in which some local fans are shown insulting Soares during the warm-up. Borrelli labeled such behavior as "shameful" and raised the issue of a climate of tolerance and poor vigilance towards retrograde attitudes in amateur football.
The Acerrana fans and the sports club defend themselves from the accusations of racism, emphasizing that, although the insults were heard and condemned, there is no racist connotation in the contested expressions. The fans say they have heard “deplorable insults” present in every stadium, but reject the accusation of racism, citing the diversity and integration present in the city of Acerra.
The local football club takes a stand, saying that their fans have never shown racist behavior, while firmly condemning the insults expressed. The dispute between the parties involved continues, with the video of the deputy Borrelli at the center of the debate on the alleged discriminatory nature of the insults aimed at the Cape Verdean footballer.
