Following the shocking events that occurred after the match between Lecce e Verona, the Apulian club has officially announced the dismissal of the coach Roberto D'Aversa. The decision was communicated through an official note, in which the club expresses gratitude to the coach and his staff for the work done.
The move follows the incident that occurred yesterday during the match, when, in the post-match turmoil against Verona, D'Aversa approached the striker Thomas Henry and headbutted him. Although the coach later apologized on television and social media, the Salento club firmly condemned the gesture, emphasizing that, despite the generally tense circumstances at the end of the match, the coach's behavior was in stark contrast to the principles and values of sport.
Lecce's official statement highlights its recognition of the work done by D'Aversa and his staff, but at the same time emphasizes the need to take a clear stance regarding the unacceptable behavior that occurred on the pitch. The dismissal was therefore the inevitable conclusion of an episode that cast a shadow on the club's reputation and shook the world of Italian football.
