During his participation in the round table “Sustainability and sports loyalty” organized by the Davide Astori Association at the Salone d'onore del Coni, the president of Coni, Giovanni Malagò, expressed his support for the idea of appointing a commissioner for stadiums in Italy. His statements reflect his frustration with a situation that, according to Malagò, has persisted for decades and requires a decisive solution.
"How can I not recognize that a commissioner is better than this quagmire in which there are dozens of situations that have been going on for 30 years? I am very much in favor but I want to read very carefully what he can do, who he answers to, who he is, I want to understand if he is a technician or a politician, because in the case of the latter he listens to what the party says", declared Malagò, highlighting the need for a competent and independent figure to address the issues related to stadiums.
The president of Coni then addressed the issue of constraints imposed by superintendencies in the management of sports facilities. Malagò stressed that the problem is mainly political in nature, stating that the release of constraints is often conditioned by other factors. He cited the example of Wembley, completely rebuilt despite its construction dating back fifty years, highlighting the limitations that Italy encounters in the management and adaptation of existing stadiums.
