The last diaphragm of the tunnel that will connect the Piscinola and Capodichino stations of Line 1 of the Naples metro has been demolished.

This stretch of over 4 kilometers will extend the main circuit of the city's subway, with the addition of five new stations: Miano, Regina Margherita, Secondigliano, Di Vittorio and Aeroporto.

The removal of the last rock obstacle was greeted with applause, a sign of the enthusiasm of both those present and the citizens of Naples and the province. In fact, thanks to this project, they will have the possibility of reaching the northern outskirts of the city and Capodichino Airport in a much more comfortable way, eliminating traffic problems and uncertainties about travel times.

According to the forecasts of EAV (Ente Autonomo Volturno), within 18 months the connection between Aversa center and Secondigliano will also be active. This route, called Line 11 or Arcobaleno, will share the stations under construction for the extension of the circuit to and from Capodichino.

This Piscinola-Capodichino section has a total length of 4,1 km. It is an extension of the line from Aversa Centro, and will represent the completion of the Naples Metro ring. This will allow the entire northern suburbs of Naples, including Miano, Secondigliano, Scampia and S. Pietro a Patierno, to easily connect with the main transport hubs of the city, including trains, the port and the airport.

The project includes the construction of four new stations: Miano, Regina Margherita, Secondigliano and Di Vittorio. Each of these stations will be accompanied by road and environmental redevelopment works in the surrounding areas, including the improvement of existing roads and the creation of new connections, for the benefit of the entire city.

The interventions planned by the Campania Region on the territory of the Municipality of Napoli will include new roads, sewer systems, street furniture, public lighting, green areas, children's playgrounds, amphitheatres and parking lots. These superficial works will not only improve connectivity, but will also change the appearance of the neighborhoods of Miano, Secondigliano, Piscinola and Scampia.

The timetable foresees the opening of the line from Aversa to Secondigliano by 2025 and up to Di Vittorio by mid-2027. The stations of Miano, Regina Margherita and Secondigliano will be completed by 2025, while the one at Di Vittorio will be finished by 2026. The total cost of the project is 420 million.

Each station will include artwork that will be selected through contests that EAV is about to publish.
