The exhibition “80 Years After the Four Days. Views of Naples and Campania in Italian-German Relations from the Axis Alliance to the Nazi Occupation of Italy (1936-1943)” was inaugurated in Naples.
The exhibition, which will remain open to the public for two months, is held at the monumental cloister of the S. Maria La Nova complex. The exhibition project, financed by the “Fund for the Future” of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany, is curated by the Department of Humanistic Studies of the Federico II University of Naples in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut of Naples and the German Historical Institute of Rome.
The exhibition offers an in-depth look at the relations between Italy and Germany during the period from the Italian-German alliance of the Rome-Berlin Axis to the Nazi invasion of Italy. Through photographic images and unpublished documents from various sources, the presence of German soldiers in Naples, the visits of Hitler and Nazi leaders, up to the liberation of the city from the Nazi-Fascist yoke, are retraced.
The exhibition project, conceived in collaboration with various cultural institutions and with the support of the Municipality of Naples and the Metropolitan City of Naples, aims to make people reflect on the darkest moments in Italian history, in particular on the popular uprising of the Four Days of Naples. An important testimony that celebrates the civil resistance and democracy that characterized that historical period.
