The exhibition "80 Years After the Four Days: Perspectives on Naples and Campania in Italian-German Relations from the Axis Alliance to the Nazi Occupation of Italy (1936–1943)" opened in Naples.
The exhibition, which will remain open to the public for two months, is held in the monumental cloister of the Santa Maria La Nova complex. The exhibition project, funded by the "Fund for the Future" of the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is curated by the Department of Humanistic Studies at the Federico II University of Naples in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut of Naples and the German Historical Institute of Rome.
The exhibition offers an in-depth look at relations between Italy and Germany during the period from the Italo-German alliance of the Rome-Berlin Axis to the Nazi invasion of Italy. Through photographs and previously unpublished documents from various sources, the exhibition traces the presence of German soldiers in Naples, the visits of Hitler and Nazi leaders, and the city's liberation from Nazi-Fascist rule.
The exhibition, conceived in collaboration with several cultural institutions and with the support of the Municipality of Naples and the Metropolitan City of Naples, aims to inspire reflection on the darkest moments in Italian history, particularly the popular uprising of the Four Days of Naples. This important testimony celebrates the civil resistance and democracy that characterized that historical period.
