Europol coordinated an operation against Neapolitan luxury watch robbers: eight members of the Neapolitan "paranze" were arrested today, bringing to 8 the number of people arrested across Europe in recent months.
The Naples State Police has in fact executed 8 European Arrest Warrants against individuals believed to be responsible for various episodes of luxury watch robberies committed in various European countries.
The operation involved several European cities, including Naples, Rome, Milan, Paris, Madrid, Barcelona, Vienna, Berlin and Zurich.
The investigations revealed that the robberies were mainly committed in tourist resorts in Spain, but also in other major European cities such as France, Austria, Germany, Spain and Switzerland. and Italian cities such as Naples itself, Rome and Milan.
The robbers' modus operandi consisted of forming groups of 3-5 people with well-defined tasks to identify victims wearing valuable watches in luxury restaurants and high-end hotels.
After identifying the victim, they violently attacked him, snatching his watch and fleeing on motorcycles driven by accomplices. The rising prices of luxury watches prompted the suspects to commit an increasing number of robberies.
The operation marked an important step in the fight against luxury watch robberies, as it facilitated the exchange of information between Europol and the police forces of the various countries involved. Europol coordinated today's action, dubbed "action day," in collaboration with Eurojust and the EU-funded @ON network. The arrests were made possible thanks to their efforts.
The information was shared in specific operational meetings. Europol coordinated the operation and deployed personnel to Italy during the execution activities.
Europol also facilitated judicial cooperation and the issuing of European Investigation Orders.
This operation is a major achievement in the fight against organised crime. It demonstrates the ability of European police forces to work together and catch criminals.
