The luxury watches stolen in various European locations by the gang of robbers of Neapolitan origin were dismantled and then reassembled to evade ordinary controls. This is explained by Antonio Serpico, vice-questor of the State Police of Napoli, commenting on the police operation which this morning executed eight European arrest warrants against eight people suspected of being responsible for several luxury watch robberies committed in various European countries.
A total of 35 individuals have been arrested in recent months as part of an international operation led by Europol. The robberies took place in major tourist destinations in Spain, as well as cities in France, Austria, Germany, and Switzerland.
"The robbers - Serpico says - they were organized groups from the capital of Campania, the so-called 'paranze', who headed towards the main European cities and tourist resorts.
Their method involved assigning specific roles to each member of the group: some chose the victim, some followed him, and some actually stole the watch from the wrist and then fled on a motorcycle driven by an accomplice waiting nearby.
The watches were then reintroduced into the black market through expert fences, who often, to hide their criminal origin, did not hesitate to dismantle the watches into their various parts and then assemble others, so as to evade regular checks."
